Bournemouth beat Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, leaving the home side eight Premier League matches without a win and only a point above the relegation zone.

Michael Carrick left captain Bruno Fernandes on the bench for the whole game, and United were two goals down by half-time. Rayan opened the scoring in the 38th minute, turning in Justin Kluivert's free-kick at the far post. Five minutes later Leny Yoro slipped and Marcus Tavernier finished from close range.

Evanilson added a third with 19 minutes left, beating goalkeeper Senne Lammens to the ball. United made changes at the break, bringing on Matheus Cunha, but rarely threatened a comeback. The players were booed off at the final whistle.

The defeat came four days after United lost 4-1 away to Como in the Champions League. Bournemouth have now won four games in a row in all competitions.

Liverpool end Brighton's run

At Anfield, Liverpool scored twice in four minutes to beat Brighton 2-0 and move up to fourth.

The first goal came in the 17th minute, when a shot from Florian Wirtz deflected in off Pascal Gross. Alexander Isak made it two in the 21st minute, finishing a pass from Bradley Barcola. Brighton had won their previous league game 5-0 at Crystal Palace but created little after the break.

It was Andoni Iraola's first Premier League win at Anfield since becoming Liverpool manager. Liverpool have 15 points, one behind third-placed Brighton.

Sunday's other results

  • Crystal Palace 0-2 Newcastle. William Osula scored barely a minute into the second half from Jacob Murphy's cross, and Harvey Barnes added a second just before the hour. Joe Willock also had a goal ruled out by VAR. Newcastle are eighth and Palace 17th.
  • Hull City 1-1 Brentford. Oli McBurnie put Hull ahead from the penalty spot in the 24th minute, his first Premier League goal in more than 900 days. Dango Ouattara equalised in the 63rd minute. Brentford are sixth and Hull tenth.
  • Sunderland 0-0 Leeds. Leeds goalkeeper James Trafford saved twice from Brian Brobbey in the first half. The point ended Sunderland's run of four straight defeats, although they stay bottom. Leeds are seventh.

Saturday's games had already ended Manchester City's perfect start, with Aston Villa winning 2-1 at Villa Park and Arsenal drawing level with City at the top after beating Everton.
