Manchester City's 100% start to the Premier League season is over. Aston Villa beat the leaders 2-1 at Villa Park on Saturday lunchtime, and by the end of the day Arsenal had drawn level with them on points at the top of the table.

City had won all seven of their league games before kick-off. They were behind inside six minutes, when Marc Guehi failed to control a pass from Ruben Dias and Nicolas Jackson ran through to score.

Erling Haaland headed an equaliser early in the second half from Iliman Ndiaye's cross, his 13th goal of the season. Jackson restored Villa's lead when he met a cross from Ibrahim Mbaye and the ball squirmed under goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Villa keeper Zion Suzuki made a string of saves, and Ian Maatsen cleared a late Haaland effort off the line.

Jackson, who joined from Chelsea in the summer to replace Ollie Watkins, now has seven goals in his first 11 appearances for the club. The win came on the fourth anniversary of Unai Emery's appointment as Villa manager.

Arsenal take their chance

Arsenal went into their 3pm game against Everton knowing a win would put them level with City, and they got it with something to spare. Ezri Konsa scored his first goal for the club in the seventh minute, forcing the ball in from close range after Jordan Pickford had tipped a Gabriel header on to the bar from a corner.

Mikel Arteta made five changes after a midweek Champions League match against Bayern Munich. Gabriel made sure of the points midway through the second half, heading in a cross from Ben White at the back post.

It is only the third top-flight season in which two teams have won at least seven of their first eight matches.

Spurs win at Stamford Bridge

In the evening game, Tottenham beat Chelsea 2-0 for only their second Premier League away win against their London rivals. It was also Chelsea's first home defeat of the season.

The opening goal came from a corner. Mike Penders, the 21-year-old making his first Premier League start in place of the injured Emiliano Martinez, punched the ball into his own net under pressure. Cole Palmer was then sent off for a second yellow card after a late challenge on Conor Gallagher, and Mathys Tel sealed the win with a solo run and finish three minutes from time.

It was a second league win in a week for Roberto De Zerbi's side, who were bottom at the start of the week. They are now 12th.

Elsewhere

Fulham climbed out of the bottom three with a 1-0 win at Coventry. Oscar Bobb settled it with a curling shot ten minutes from the end, leaving Frank Lampard's side second from bottom.

On Friday night, Ipswich came from behind to draw 1-1 with Nottingham Forest at Portman Road, Julio Enciso scoring for the hosts.

The weekend continues on Sunday, with Manchester United at home to Bournemouth and Crystal Palace playing Newcastle.
