Greggs says the Festive Bake broke its one-day sales record on launch day

The baker brought its Christmas range back two weeks earlier than ever this year, and says Thursday was the bake's biggest single day of sales in 17 years.

Greggs sold more Festive Bakes on Thursday than on any other day since the seasonal pastry was first launched, the bakery chain has said.

The Christmas bake went on sale in shops across the country on Thursday, two weeks earlier than in any previous year and on the earliest date in its 17-year history. Greggs said the first day's sales set an all-time single-day record for the product.

The company said it had moved the launch forward because it believed customers were ready to start their Christmas food treats sooner than ever. It now expects to sell more Festive Bakes this season than in any year so far.

What is in it

Greggs said it had fine-tuned the recipe for 2026. The bake contains chicken, smoked ham hock, sweetcure bacon, soft cheese and spiced pork stuffing in a sage and cranberry sauce, wrapped in glazed puff pastry with a crumb topping.

The rest of the festive range is also now in shops, including:

  • a Pigs Under Blankets toastie
  • a pepperoni pizza with hot honey
  • a Festive Feast baguette and a festive flatbread
  • a sweet mince pie roll
  • three new sweet treats and a range of seasonal drinks

Customers can also order through Click and Collect on the Greggs app, or have food delivered through Just Eat and Uber Eats.

An earlier Christmas

Greggs' customer director, Zoe Harris, said the bake had a huge following but that this year's launch had stood out even by its standards. She said the company had brought it back early because people wanted to start feeling festive sooner, and that the record first day suggested this could be its biggest Festive Bake season yet.

Last year the festive menu did not arrive until early November. This year's launch on 22 October gives the chain two extra weeks of Christmas trading.

What shoppers should know

The Festive Bake and the rest of the festive range are now on sale in Greggs shops nationwide. Greggs has not said how many bakes it sold on launch day, only that it was more than on any previous single day.

The festive menu is a seasonal range and is only available for a limited time, so anyone wanting to try the new items will need to do so over the coming weeks.
