easyJet to put Starlink wifi on its planes for the first time from 2027

Fitting will start in the first half of next year on the airline's A320 and A321 jets, but easyJet has not said whether passengers will have to pay to get online.

Passengers on easyJet flights will be able to get online in the air for the first time after the airline signed a deal with SpaceX to fit its Starlink satellite internet across most of its fleet.

Installation is due to begin in the first half of 2027 and finish by early 2028, easyJet said on Monday. The equipment will go on its A320, A320neo and A321neo aircraft, which Simple Flying puts at more than 300 planes. The older A319s, which the airline is phasing out, will not get it.

The airline said passengers would be able to stream video, play games and browse on their own phones, tablets and laptops in the same way they would on the ground. They will also be able to check flight updates through the easyJet app and website during the journey and look up weather, transport and tourist information for where they are heading. easyJet said the connection could later be used for ordering food and drink from the seat.

What it has not said is how much any of this will cost. There is no word yet on whether wifi will be free for everyone, included in a paid bundle or sold as an add-on. Simple Flying reports that it may be linked to a loyalty scheme the airline is due to launch.

Where other airlines stand

Starlink works through a network of satellites in low Earth orbit. Airline Geeks lists United, Lufthansa Group, Emirates, Air France-KLM and Air Canada among the airlines already signed up to it.

Budget airlines in Europe have been slower to follow. Earlier this year easyJet said the cost of fitting the kit could not be justified on short European routes, a position it has now reversed. Of the other big low-cost names flying from UK airports, Wizz Air has announced a Starlink rollout for 2027, while Ryanair and Jet2 do not offer wifi.

easyJet carries around 100 million passengers a year. The planes will be fitted gradually, and the airline has not published a schedule showing which routes or aircraft will be first.
