Point of Law, sold by King Charles earlier this year, wins the Melbourne Cup
The three-year-old caught long-time leader Royal Supremacy at Flemington, and trainer Ciaron Maher took the first three places.

A horse that belonged to King Charles until earlier this year has won the Melbourne Cup, Australia's best-known race, at Flemington on Tuesday.
Point of Law, a three-year-old, was sold by the King to an Australian syndicate. Ridden by Ethan Brown, he ran down Royal Supremacy, who at one stage was more than a dozen lengths clear.
Both horses are trained by Ciaron Maher, who had a record seven of the 23 runners. Zahrann was second and Juja Kibo third, making Maher the first trainer to saddle the first three home in the race.
For Brown, the win follows a fall at Flemington in 2023 that put him in hospital and kept him out of the saddle for six months. He said afterwards that it was every jockey's dream and that he expected the horse to become a star.
Robbie Williams performed at Flemington before the race.
